More than 13,000+ NPTEL Video lectures has English subtitles for download (The details of the NPTEL Video courses which has video subtitles can be found from the below page)
I have provided a link to the ZIP file which contains 896 course IDs which will help in automatically downloading the NPTEL Video Subtitles very easily. This ZIP file also contains a small shell script which will automatically download the NPTEL Video Subtitles.
To download the subtitles, you need a Linux based Operating System like Ubuntu, Fedora, RedHat, CentOS, Debian or any other Linux Distribution.
Also, the popular command line download manager in Linux named ‘wget’ is also required to download the Subtitles, which should be already installed/available in your Linux OS.
Download the ZIP file from the above link and extract the contents. You will find 896 directories and a file named “course.id” under each directory which will help in downloading all the NPTEL Video Subtitles for the corresponding NPTEL course ID.
Now, copy/move the shell script ‘digimat.download.subtitle’ to /usr/local/bin/ directory in your Linux OS. For Ubuntu OS, you may use the below command
$sudo mv digimat.download.subtitle /usr/local/bin
$sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/digimat.download.subtitle
Now, cd (change directory) to the NPTEL Course ID directory
To download the NPTEL Video Lecture subtitles for the above course ID (i.e. 101101001), type ‘digimat.download.subtitle’ and press ENTER
It will ask for the First Lecture no. of the course to download the subtitle (here, accept the default value which is displayed as ‘1’) and press ENTER
Now, it will ask for the Last Lecture no. of the course to download the subtitle (here, the default value is displayed as ’60’. You can change the value if you wish or leave it to default and press ENTER. Now you will see all the video subtitles getting downloaded for the specific NPTEL Video course)
